![]() Running Linux on your notebook and wondering about poor battery life? In this article I'll give you some hints how to increase the lifetime of your battery. I hope it'll work without any problems and my battery will last very long. It would be nice if Linux would show what's happening: that the Laptop is in AC mode with 49% charge without charging the battery. Linux says now the Laptop is in battery mode with 49% charge without showing the remaining battery time. Unfortunately Linux can't display my new charging settings properly. The documentation is a bit missleading here, because it says the changes are temporarily, so I wasn't sure if the changing of the threshold is still implemented to 50% or reset to the default values after rebooting. It is still the case after rebooting the ThinkPad. With: "sudo tlp setcharge 40 50 BAT0" I managed to change the threshold to 50%. Most important you can check for the name of your battery, in my case BAT0. With "sudo tlp-stat -b" the terminal shows me the current TLP settings and some battery values. ![]() You have to do this with the AC plugged in (AC mode) and plugged off (battery mode). ![]() With "sudo tlp start", the program starts. I had to do this, because in the "application management" an older version was downloaded. With "sudo apt update" you can check for updates. With "sudo apt install acpi-call-dkms" you can install the thinkpad_acpi package. Installation via the LinuxMint "application management" (search for TLP). So the next one doesn't have to look it up by him/herself and waste some time, here are the basic steps and commands for a ThinkPad: I've read through the documentation of TLP 1.5 and I managed to download TLP 1.5 and the thinkpad_acpi package. Thanks in advance and looking forward to your suggestions. How can I adjust the charging time, so the battery will be charged slowly to further increase the lifetime? How can I modify the settings, so the battery will be charged till 80% and after that the Laptop can be still plugged in and just uses the power from the net, like there wouldn't exist a battery? I've read that this would be better for the battery instead of charging and emptying it every day. Sometimes it shows even 70h left? Why does Linux calculate the status not precisely?Īlso, I have a question regarding the charging of the battery: I've read a lot of times, that the battery shouldn't be charged more than 80% in order to prolong the lifetime. I'm using this Laptop since a few weeks and the battery status confuses me.
